James Virgil Caughran, 84, of Mount Taylor, died Tuesday, Aug. 17, 2004.
He was born on Oct. 25, 1919, in Grady, to Harry Lonzo and Wannie Belle Caughran.
He married Elsie Faith Bliss on June 29, 1941. They moved in the mid-1940s to Dove Creek, Colo., where he farmed and ran an gas business. He and his family moved to Albuquerque in the mid-1950s and lived there for over 45 years. He was a successful real estate businessman and was the prime developer of Elephant Butte Estates, family members said. They also said he was an avid nature lover, conservationist and enjoyed raising livestock.
He was preceded in death by his wife; a son; his parents; a brother; and a sister.
Survivors include a niece, Barbara Woodward (and husband, Bob) of Albuquerque; a nephew, Dr. Leroy Coffman (Carol) of Winter Haven, Fla.; a daughter-in-law, Tisha Caughran of Albuquerque; a sister-in-law, Mildred Merrill of Clovis; and many close friends.
