AccessBank CFO earns honor

Ken Huey Jr., chief financial officer of AccessBank in Clovis, was surprised to open a recent letter stating he would receive the 2004 Governor’s New Mexico Distinguished Public Service Award (NMDPSA).

“I didn’t know (I was nominated), but it’s great. It’s nice to see the good things that you do are appreciated,” Huey said.

The NMDPSA honors “people who perform acts above and beyond in all levels of community service, (and have a) history of public service with the state, generally in their individual communities,” said JoLou Trujillo-Ottino, president of Mediaworks and NMDPSA coordinator.

Huey is among 15 others — one receiving a lifetime achievement award — who will be honored at an awards banquet in Albuquerque on Sept. 9, Trujillo-Ottino said.

Huey is involved in many organizations in the Clovis community, including the Chamber of Commerce, the Committee of 50 and the Noon-day Kiwanis club.

Kathy Allenberg, Huey’s secretary at AccessBank for more than 10 years, said she nominated her boss because he’s active within the community.

“He goes to everything there is,” she said. “He’s just a really great guy. I have never been around anybody who is so community-oriented. I have the highest regard for him.”
