A 31-year-old Clovis man died early Saturday morning after suffering several gunshot wounds, police said.
Officials said Tony Parker was shot about 4:30 a.m. in the vicinity of the Clovis Apartments in the 1000 block of North Martin Luther King Boulevard.
No arrests had been made by 8 p.m. on Saturday.
“We have leads on suspects but we have no motive,” Detective Kirk Roberts said. “This is probably going to take several days if not several weeks to straighten out.”
Police were unable to say exactly where the crime occurred.
Detective Roger Grah said Parker walked some distance before he succumbed.
“We’ve been talking to a lot of people,” Grah said. “We’ve got a couple of names we are looking for.”
Michelle Martinez, 23, who lives in the Clovis Apartments where Parker’s body was found, said she heard four or five gunshots in the middle of the night.
Another neighbor, Crystal Bail, said she only counted two or three shots.
Police said Parker suffered multiple wounds, but they could not determine at the scene how many times he had been shot.
They said it could be months before the Office of the Medical Investigator produces an official report on the number of wounds.
Parker is survived by his two children, Mariah, 10, and Tony, 8.
His relatives said Saturday he was a good and decent single father who went to work every day at the Clovis Housing Authority.
The slaying is the seventh homicide in the city this year.
