Mrs. Vera Rogers, 89, of Elida, died Monday, Aug. 16, 2004, at Plains Regional Medical Center in Clovis.

She was born on July 20, 1915, in Goldthwaite, Texas, to Gwendolyn and Henry W. Davis.

They moved to Elida when she was young. She graduated from Elida High School in 1934. She married Temple Rogers on Dec. 21, 1934, in Elida. They began their married life on a leased farm with apple boxes for furniture and having to haul drinking water, family members said. For many years she worked as a librarian in Elida.

Family members said she enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting, working picture and crossword puzzles, and was an excellent cook.

She was a member of the Elida Homemakers’ Club and the Elida Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Loyd, Larry, Guymon and Elvie Davis; two sisters, Glenna Bachman and Zelma Taylor; a grandson, Jerry Don Moore; a son-in-law, Dick Moore; and her husband.

Survivors include two sons, Dale Rogers (and wife, Kay) of Roswell and Charles Rogers (Nancy) of Clovis; two daughters, Marilyn Belcher of Clovis and Annelle Pruet (Glen) of Richardson, Texas; 17 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Cecil Davis of Tucson, Ariz.; and a sister, Frances Taylor of Shawnee, Okla.

The Rev. Herb Gage and the Rev. Bob Bell will officiate the services.

Burial will be at Elida Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Rod, Russ, Rance and Christopher Rogers, Brad and Luther Belcher, Jeremy Burgin, Roger Moore and Glen Allen Pruet.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Jerry Don Moore Scholarship Fund, c/o Charles Rogers, 2308 Fairway Terrace, Clovis, NM 88101.
