Donald R. Vickrey, 64

Mr. Donald R. Vickrey, 64, of Clovis, died Tuesday, July 6, 2004, at Plains Regional Medical Center in Clovis.

He was born on Jan. 10, 1940, in Apache, Okla., to John and Ina Delk Vickrey.

He moved to Clovis in 1950 from Apache, Okla. He graduated from Clovis High School in 1958 and attended New Mexico State University and graduated from Eastern New Mexico University in 1962. He married Barbara Gibson on Dec. 23, 1962, in Elida. He received a master’s degree in 1966 from ENMU. After graduating from college he worked with his dad in the construction business and then owned and operated a computer software company. He was a licensed pilot and loved to fly. He enjoyed working cattle on his father-in-law’s ranch. He was a member and past president of the Clovis Noonday Kiwanis Club.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Debbie Herring (and husband, Pat) of Lubbock and Corene Alford (Bobby) of Portales; a sister, Lois Jones (Joe L.) of Clovis; four grandchildren, Ross and Garrett Herring and Carlie and Tobin Alford.

Services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday at Steed-Todd Chapel in Clovis. James Terry and Bob Bell will officiate the services.

Burial will be at Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens in Clovis.

Pallbearers are James Johnson, Joe S. Jones, Bobby Alford, Pat Herring, Sid Lanier and Vance Dewbre.

Honorary pallbearers are his grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice.

Arrangements are by Steed-Todd Funeral Home of Clovis.

Eugene Wallis, 40

Mr. Eugene Wallis, 40, of Portales, died Tuesday, July 6, 2004, at Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock.

He was born on Aug. 3, 1963, in Tulsa, Okla., to the Rev. Hugh and Mary Wallis.

His family moved to Portales in 1975. He was a 1982 graduate of Portales High School, where he played football and baseball and ran track. He was a weightlifter, capable of lifting several times his own body weight. In 1979, he won the State Weight Lifting Championship, competing against contenders much older than himself, family members said. He had worked in grocery markets and at a local delicatessen until his health would no longer permit. He also worked with his parents in the Living Faith Ministry and was vice president at the time of his death.

Family members said he was knowledgeable about nutrition and health, but he was most knowledgeable about the Bible and spiritual matters.

He married Amy Adams on Aug. 22, 1996, at Living Faith Church in Portales. Family members said he was a fan of Star Trek, and liked to spend time with his animals, especially his pit bulldog, “Bull.”

Survivors include his wife, Amy Wallis of the family home; two sons, Chris and Michael, both of Portales; a daughter, Sarah of Portales; his parents; two brothers, Kerry Wayne Wallis (and wife, Kristin) of Portales and Danny Joe Wallis (Sandra) of Clifton, Texas; his aunt and uncle, Bonnie and Jim Reed of Portales, as well as a niece, Harli Wallis, and thrree nephews, Danny Joe “Snapper” Wallis, Jr., Kevin McCabe Wallis and Jordon Bradley Wallis

Services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday at Living Faith Church in Portales. The Rev. Hugh Wallis will officiate the services assisted by the Rev. Mike Tucker and Kenneth Broad.

Burial will be at Portales Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Chris and Michael Szoyka, Tim Mathis, Josh Lucero, Ray Paiz and Rick Haverland.

Adam Gutierrez has been named an honorary pallbearer.

Arrangements are by Wheeler Mortuary of Portales.
