Frederick Davis

The remains of Christian Frederick “Sonny” Davis, well known area cowboy and steer roper, were re-interred in the Kenna Cemetery Saturday, June 12, 2004 with family and close friends present.
He died April 14, 1991, at the age of 56, after a lengthy battle with cancer.
He was born on Jan. 2, 1935, in Hobbs, to Ada and Red Davis.
He grew up on the SEA Ranch and in Fort Sumner. In 1954 he was married to Dot Denton. He made his home in the Kenna area until 1979 when he moved to Weatherford, Texas. From 1988 until his death he had lived in Kent, Texas, near Pecos. He was a three-time World Champion Steer Roper, and was posthumously inducted into the Cowboy Hall of Fame in 1993.
Survivors include his second wife, Janie Davis of Dublin, Texas; two daughters, Trudi Davis of Kenna and Debi Allison of Glencoe; and a granddaughter, Dana Allison of Arvada, Colo.
The Rev. Bob Bell and Charles Good officiated the services.
Music was provided by Maurine and Jake Howard.
