Mary Chappell, 83
Mary Nanne Chappell, 83, of Loveland, Colo., died Monday, June 14, 2004, at her home.
She was born on March 17, 1921, in Elida, to Oliver D. Lambirth and Clara A. Radcliffe.
She attended Elida High School. She graduated from Bethany College in Kansas. She received an associate’s degree from Portales Junior College. She taught music and English during World War II. Family members said she loved the piano and singing, gardening, roses, reading, watching birds and was an excellent cook. She lived in Big Thompson Canyon for 50 years. She and her husband owned and managed the Montrose Hotel, store and gas station up the canyon until the flood of 1976.
Survivors include her husband, Charles Chappell of Loveland; three daughters, Elizabeth Anne Chappell-Moffet of Pueblo West, Colo., Clara Louise Martin of Fort Collins, Colo., and Nanci Marie Tobin of Loveland, Colo.; and three grandchildren.
Services have been held. The Rev. John Turnage officiated the services.
She was cremated.
Arrangements were by Viegut Funeral Home of Loveland.
Geneva Tomlinson, 98
Geneva Tomlinson, 98, of Carlsbad, died Wednesday, June 23, 2004, at Landsun Health Service Center in Carlsbad.
She was born on Sept. 28, 1905, in Lamont, Okla.
She grew up in Roosevelt County in the small community of Inez. She graduated from Portales High School and then from New Mexico Highlands University. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Carlsbad.
She was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. Robert O. Tomlinson; a son, the Rev. Leonard Tomlinson; and a brother, Paul Westbrook.
Survivors include a son, Robert T. Tomlinson (and wife, Donna) of Cypress, Texas; a daughter, Louise Burnette (Robert) of New Barn, N.C.; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Services are scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Friday at Landsun Otto Chapel in Carlsbad. The Rev. Erwin Wan Essen will officiate the services.
