Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities

June 9 Dora News

Windy, dry and hot pretty well says it all about the weather in this whole area. I’m told from Lubbock, Lamesa and Amarillo on too the east has had rain, hail and twisters; hearing from friends and relatives being my information source. Sure pray it starts here soon so our dryland farmers can get to planting.

Wheat is being harvested and is unusually early this year, probably due to drought and heat with wind. They don’t know yet just how it is turning out, but cut the first on June 4th on the Blake Inge farm.

Moved

Gene and Latrell Massey have sold their home place to Terry and Jimmie Lou Varnell. The Masseys have already moved to the place they bought in Portales. I guess the Varnells will move anytime, if they haven’t already.

Fraze

Joyce Fraze has also moved to the Fraze home in Portales and Gordon and Becky moved over into her home place. Their middle son lives where they moved from.

We hate to see our friends and neighbors leaving the area, but there comes a time when we all must change for one reason or another.

Need Cats?

If you need any good cats for your farm, barn or where ever just call me at 356-9104. I have a few wanting (needing) a country home and I’m sure you have a few mice or rats they could help you get rid of.

Commodities

As far as Gail Keener knows the commodities should be in Portales today and in Dora, Causey and Arch next Wednesday.

Charlie Sez: Did you know on June 9, 1856 a band of 497 Mormons left Iowa City, Iowa, for Salt Lake City, carrying their possessions in two-wheeled handcarts. “Taken from Ben Franklin’s Almanac, Fascinating Facts.”
