Mrs. Mary Edna Luker, 94, of Portales, died Wednesday, June 2, 2004, at Heartland Continuing Care Center in Portales.
She was born on June 7, 1909, in Winters, Texas, to Willie and T.B. Inman.
As a girl the family moved to Tulia, Texas. After having lived there several years they relocated to Brownfield in 1923. She married Walter Luker on Jan. 17, 1926, in Brownfield, Texas. In 1944 they moved to Dora where they operated a farm and dairy. She was involved in the Dora Baptist Church and the Dora Senior Citizens. After moving to Portales in 1991 to make their home at Golden Acres, she became a member of the Calvary Baptist Church. Family members said she enjoyed her family, and taking family camping trips, gardening, canning, sewing and various kinds of handwork. Since July of 1999 she had made her home at Heartland Continuing Care Center in Portales.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Oleta Shepherd, Naomi Patterson and Helen Hallford; a daughter, Betty Jo Dickerman; and by her husband.
Survivors include a daughter, Donna Jean Victor (and husband, Bennie) of Portales; five grandchildren, Chris Duncan (Kathy), Nelda Leadingham, Linda Carver (Rendell), Denise Wall (Dickie) and Jolene Fails (Rick); 14 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a brother, Woodson Inman of Carlsbad.
The Rev. Steve Smith and the Rev. Roy Roach will officiate the services.
Burial will be at Portales Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Rick, T.J. and Jonathan Fails, Scott and Chris Duncan, Rendell Carver, Dickie Wall and Brad Hill.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Calvary Baptist Church, P. O. Box 8, Portales, N.M. 88130.
