Second annual Rough Rider motorcycle rally planned

Motorcyclists from across the area are invited to attend the second annual Rough Rider Rally held in conjunction with the 20th Annual Heritage Days scheduled June 19 at the Portales City Park at Seventh and Abilene.

A poker run will take place at the Memorial Building with first bike out at 9:30 a.m. and last bike out at 11 a.m. Registration is $10.

Motorcycle competitions will take place later in the day in front of the City Pool on Seventh Street. Prizes will be awarded. Cyclists may also participate in the Portales High All-School Reunion “Drag Main Street” between 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. June 18.

Search on for oldest PHS alumni

The Portales High School All-School Reunion committee is looking for the oldest living Portales High School alumni in hopes to bring them to Portales for the all-school reunion June 18-19.

Several alumni from the 1930s classes have been located. However, the committee is hoping for more contacts.

Voting deadlines loom

Saturday is the last day to vote absentee in person in the county clerk’s office in the courthouse. Hours for voting are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Thursday is the last day the county clerk can mail an absentee ballot.

Extended learning classes offered during summer

Here are a few programs offered through the extended learning branch of Eastern New Mexico University.

• Partners in tole painting for child/adult teams ages 9-12 or singles for ages 12 years and up, 9:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m., July 10, Family Consumer Science building, room 100. Team price is $30 while the single charge is $18. Most supplies including your wooden project are included within a $12 per person kit fee.

• Progress through an arrangement of basic computer classes with Denise Hobbs. Hobbs will conduct using Windows, 6-8 p.m. July 12, Introduction to MS Word XP, 6-8:30 p.m., July 14, and Internet 101, 6-8 p.m., July 15, all in University Computer Center, room 107. The registration fee is $25 each for using Windows and Internet 101 and $30 for Introduction to MS Word XP.

• Speedy cross stitch with Victoria Garrett, Cozy Cottage Cross Stitch Shoppe, 119 S Main for this beginners class, 6:30-9:30 p.m., July 13. The fee is $7 with a $5 kit fee, payable to the instructor.
