Mrs. Doretha Ellen “Grandma” Harden, 85, of Clovis, a retired teacher, died Tuesday, May 11, 2004, at Plains Regional Medical Center in Clovis.

She was born on June 23, 1918, in Clovis, to Vernon and Elma Forbes Miller.

She married Clinton Harden on Jan. 22, 1944, in Chicago, Ill. She had taught school many years in New Mexico and Colorado. She was an active participant in the Republican Party and was a dedicated advocate for Future Business Leaders of America. She was a member of First Church of God where she taught Sunday School, was a youth leader, played the piano and served as church treasurer. She was a lifetime member of the Good Sams Club and a vocal supporter of Lady Wildcat athletics.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Glenice Denney and Verna Peters; and a brother, Dr. Carl E. Miller.

Survivors include her husband; a son, Clint Harden Jr. (and wife, Kathy) of Clovis; two brothers, Kenneth L. Miller of Clovis and Donald M. Miller of Davis, Calif.; three grandchildren, Danielle Oliveira, Dionne Fish and Dustin Harden; four great-grandchildren, Lisa Marie and Madison Hope Harden, Matthew Oliveira and Brody Fish.

The Rev. Jared Reynolds and Herbert Bergstrom will officiate the services.

Burial will be at Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens in Clovis.

Pallbearers are Walter Bradley, Terry White, Royce Stevens, Jessie Crisp, Jerry Oldham and John Bourne.

Honorary pallbearers are members of the Good Sams Club, friends and neighbors, Dr. David Stalker, Dr. Elwyn Crume, Dr. Obadias Ferrari and Dr. Allan Haynes.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Hartley House for Domestic Violence.
