The Coyotes (8-8, 5-3 district) will next play in a regional tournament at Santa Fe, against host Santa Fe Indian.

“It worked out pretty well,” Thatcher said of Thursday’s game, which broke a tie between the Coyotes and the Lions. “It was a one-or-done game for us.”

Texico finished undefeated in the district to claim the top spot.

Hays struck out the side in both the second and third innings for Dora, who played without Tyler Wilhoit (Business Professionals of America trip) and Jason Parker (groin injury).
