V.G. “Red” Kyle, 77, of Fort Sumner died Tuesday, April 27, 2004.

He was born on Sept. 6, 1926, in Brownfield, Texas, to F.R. and Edna Walters Kyle.

He graduated from Fort Sumner High School in 1944. He served in World War II as a M1 Rifle Marksman and received the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. He married Leila Ione Wilmeth on Nov. 26, 1953, in Fort Sumner. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Demolay Dad, a 32 Degree Master Mason, Eastern Star and Order of the Rainbow Girls, FFA Adult Leader Group, NM Junior Rodeo Association and American Quarter Horse Association.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Joe and Dub Kyle.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Sandra Ione Mixon (and husband, Terry) of Canadian, Texas; three sons, Marshall Kyle (Phyllis) of Collinsville, Texas, Michael “Pete” Kyle (Tamra) of Whitesboro, Texas, and William Jeff Kyle (June) of Fort Sumner; a brother, Jack Kyle of Yukon, Okla.; nine grandchildren, Kylene and Brandon Skipworth, Cody Mixon, Ryan, Reed, Lainey, Scott, Kari and Courtney Kyle; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

The Reverend Monty Leavell will officiate the services.

Burial will be at Fort Sumner Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Bob and Charlie West, Mike Scott, William and Joe Spitz, C.W. Grissom, Emmett Fallon and Clay Crist.

Visitation is scheduled from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. today at Chavez Funeral Home.
