Florence Miller, 88
Mrs. Florence Miller, 88, of Portales, died Sunday, March 28, 2004, at her home.
She was born on Feb. 22, 1916, in Elida, to Minnie and Manford Elkins.
She grew up on the family homestead northwest of Elida. She started to school at Chaves. When she was 12 years old, the family moved to the Bethel Community. She married B.F. Miller on Jan. 6, 1935, in the middle of the road between Melrose and Floyd. She was a pioneer member of the Bethel Homemakers Club and remained active in the Floyd Senior Citizens as long as she was able to get there. Family members said she was known for her spotless housekeeping and her immaculate yard. Several years ago her yard was named Yard of the Month by the Garden Club
She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Leo, Earl and Jesse Elkins; a sister, Frances Turnbough; and by her husband, B.F. Miller.
Survivors include two sons, Dale Miller (and wife, Frieda) of Portales and Dink Miller (Mitzi) of Floyd; a daughter, Edith Chandler (Dennis Rabroker) of Belton, Texas; nine grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
The Rev. Farrell Odom and Wayne Baker will officiate the services.
Burial will be at Portales Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Johnny Firestone, Johnny Smith, Orvil Dunsworth, Duane Lee, Wayne Corbin and E. A. Bass.
Arrangements are by Wheeler Mortuary of Portales.
Services are at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Wheeler Mortuary Chapel in Portales.
