Lady Ram softball routs Ruidoso

DEXTER — The Portales High softball team got off to a fast start and never looked back in a 15-2 rout of Ruidoso to start play in the Dexter Tournament.

Portales (3-2) led 6-0 after two innings against the District 4-3A rival Lady Warriors, and ended the game after six innings via the 10-run rule.

Portales coach Robbie Crowley said that every starter got at least one hit and the team collected 15 hits.

Ashleah Richards was 3-for-4 , while Sara Silva and Erica Feliciano each went 2-for-3 and Ashley Flores was 2-for-4.

The Lady Rams play a 1 p.m. game today against the winner of Thursday’s game between Artesia junior varsity and Jal.

Portales senior Kassandra Richards struck out 10 against five hits.

“She’s still getting in her groove,” Crowley said. “She’s just throwing what she can.”

Irish pound Rams

SILVER CITY — The Rams were held to their lowest offensive total of the season, managing only two runs on eight hits in a 13-2 loss against El Paso Cathedral in the first round of the Fighting Colt Invitational.

Portales (6-2) will play the loser of Thursday’s late game between Silver and Lordsburg at 10 a.m., and will end the tournament Saturday in either the seventh-place game (10 a.m.) or the fifth-place game (1 p.m.).

The Irish managed 16 hits against three pitchers for Portales (6-2), and the game ended after six innings via the 10-run rule.

“They did a good job just hitting the ball,” Portales coach Greg Hill said. “They had a lot of base hits, just dings here and there.”

Portales got both of its runs off hits from senior outfielder Seth Clabaugh. Clabaugh had a single in the third to score outfielder Nathan Brown, and added a double in the fifth to plate catcher Tyler Rutherford.

Clabaugh was 2-for-2 on the night, while Todd Mosier went 2-for-3.
