Zia student to hold bow assembly

The shooting of an apple off a person’s head with a bow and arrow is a familiar scene in many movies set in medieval times.

But Zia Elementary School student Ryan Sanders, who has been shooting bows since age 3, will tell teachers, parents and his peers that safety is more important.

Ryan, 12, will discuss bow and arrow safety at a school assembly at 2 p.m. on April 1.

“He’ll be explaining to the kids how dangerous a bow and arrow can be,” said David Sanders, Ryan’s father.

The assembly is open to the public.

David Sanders said Ryan’s dream was to be sponsored by a major bow company. That dream was attained last year when Ryan competed under partial sponsorship from Hoyt Bow, a major bow manufacturer.

Ryan also took second-place honors at the state indoor competition this month in Las Cruces.
