Lady Cats take pair of one-run wins at Roswell

ROSWELL — Senior catcher Alicia Odom hit a pair of inside-the-park home runs Tuesday night to rally the Clovis High softball team past Roswell High 3-2 for a sweep of their doubleheader.

The Lady Wildcats (4-1) won the first game 8-7, scoring five runs in the top of the sixth to erase a 5-3 deficit.

Odom brought the Lady Cats within 2-1 with a fourth-inning homer, then added a two-run blast in the sixth. Junior Annie Tweedy (1-0) picked up the win with a complete game, striking out seven, walking three and allowing four hits.

In the opener, Odom’s two-run single keyed a three-run CHS third. Both teams finished the game with 10 hits, with Cynthia Lucio going 3-for-4 and Laura Wood and Tweedy each adding 2-for-4.

The Lady Cats also swept a junior varsity doubleheader, winning the opener 4-3 with a four-run fifth and taking the nightcap 19-7 in a game shortened to five innings by the run rule.

Ceshia Lujan and Maria Gallegos each had two hits in the opener, while Laura Gully, Janell Gallegos and Leslie Stewart each had four hits and Sonia Chavez and Valerie Gallegos added three each in the second game, including a home run by Gully. Winning pitchers were Julie Surina in the first game and Rachelle Urban in the second.
