Police blotter 2/29

Shortly after midnight Feb. 21, police responded to the 100 block of Fireball where a resident reported that door knockers were coming to her house.

She also said it appeared someone had been trying to start a fire near her house and showed police a damaged satellite dish in her back yard.

A state alcohol agent requested assistance from Clovis police after stopping a 2000 Mitsubishi SUV for weaving about 9:15 p.m. Feb. 21 near the corner of Purdue and Mitchell. The 26-year-old male driver failed field sobriety tests, was arrested for driving while intoxicated and failure to maintain traffic lane, and subsequently gave breath alcohol test results of 0.11 and 0.10.

Clovis police received two vehicle theft reports on Feb. 21.

About 12:20 p.m., police responded to the 3200 block of Duckworth regarding a stolen vehicle. A 20-year-old Clovis man said someone had stolen his 2001 Plymouth Neon between 2 a.m. and 10 a.m. The man said the keys were not left in the car and all doors except the driver’s door were locked.

An hour later, a 26-year-old Clovis woman called police to the 700 block of East Seventh Street and told officers a 24-year-old Clovis man had stolen her silver 1990 Mercury Sable. The woman said she had given the man a set of keys but told him he could not longer use the car after he had been driving with no license and no insurance. After further inquiries, police determined that the man had paid the woman $500 of $1,500 owed toward purchasing the vehicle and informed the two that police could not prosecute the case because it was a civil matter.

Police stopped a 1997 GMC pickup for loud music about 2 p.m. Feb. 21 and found the 16-year-old male driver was wearing an overwhelming amount of cologne. Further investigation revealed that there was also a smell of marijuana in the car.

Police found rolling papers, several burned seeds, and green leaves consistent with marijuana, as well as a bottle of “Xtreme Detox” whose label identified it as a product designed to flush the system of toxins prior to urinalysis testing. He was cited for loud music and drug paraphernalia and released to the custody of his mother.

About 11:30 a.m. Feb. 22, police responded to a report of a counterfeit $10 bill at a gas station. The person who attempted to give the bill to the gas station clerk said he got it from another man who was present.

The man’s wife refused consent to search purses found in their vehicle, but after police summoned a drug dog unit, the dog identified possible drugs in the purses that were later identified as crystal methamphetamine. Officers reported they would be obtaining a warrant for arrest on fraud charges.

A 45-year-old Clovis father called police about 8 p.m. Monday to a home on the 1000 block of Fairway Terrace regarding possible drug use by his 17-year-old son. The father said he had overheard a conversation in which a friend called and offered the son “crystals.”

Police took a report and submitted the incident for further investigation.
