Lady Wolverines rout Tucumcari in 6-2A

Brette Hadley led a balanced attack with 11 points as Texico rebounded from a heartbreaking loss by drilling Tucumcari 65-26 in the first round of the District 6-2A girls basketball tournament Monday at Texico Sports Arena.

Mindi Roberts added 10 points for the Lady Wolverines, who jumped out to a 43-8 halftime lead.

“We went back to our old style of pressing,” Texico coach Buddy Little said. “We pressed fullcourt and stayed in it the whole first half. In the second half, we played everybody.”

Texico (20-5) was coming off a last-second 55-53 loss to Santa Rosa on Friday that cost the Lady Wolverines a share of the district title.

Melrose had an even easier time Monday, routing undermanned Vaughn 62-12 in the first round of the District 3-1A girls tournament.

Audrey Hemminger led the way for the Lady Buffs (13-14) with 22 points and Skyler Cochran added 11.
