Fred Bogard, 74
Fred Bogard, 74, of Clovis died Sunday, Feb. 22, 2004, at Laurel Ridge Healthcare in Clovis.
He was born on Sept. 24, 1929, in Logan to Walter and Clarice LaRue Bogard.
He married Goldie Hodge on Aug. 26, 1950, in Tucumcari. He was in the car business since he was 17 years old. He owned three car dealerships: Southwest Motors in Tucumcari, Fred Bogard Ford in Portales and Car City of Clovis. He was a member of the Clovis Portales Elks Lodge.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Tennie Mae Patterson; and two brothers, Stanley and Vernon Bogard.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Pete Bogard (and wife, Connie) of Dallas; two daughters, Kathy Segura of Clovis and Carol Riddle (Jim) of Ruidoso; a brother, Bob Bogard (LaVonne) of Farmington; six grandchildren, Melissa Widner (Charlie) of Clovis, Shelley Mayfield (Bill) of Ovala, Texas, Kelley Manahan (Cloe) of Tuscola, Texas, Mike Riddle (Malynda) of Newalla, Okla., Blake Bogard (Kelly) of Arvada, Colo., and Jill Bogard of Dallas, Texas; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews, including Susan Kempf (Scott) of Clovis.
Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. today at The Chapel, 1500 Thornton in Clovis.
The Rev. Hugh Wallis and the Rev. Kenneth Broad will officiate the services.
Burial will be at Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens in Clovis.

Pallbearers will be his grandchildren.

Herminio Chavez, 73
Herminio Chavez, 73, of Portales died Saturday, Feb. 21, 2004, at Roosevelt General Hospital in Portales.
He was born on Feb. 9, 1931, in Vaughn to Juanita and Senovio Chavez.
He grew up in Vaughn. At the age of 16 he entered the Army to serve his country. He worked in construction until the early 1980s. He was a member of the Carpenter’s Union. Most of the projects he worked on were in New Mexico and Texas. He married Maria Rodarte on June 20, 1949, in Vaughn. They moved to Portales in the early 1950s. He was a member of St. Helen Catholic Church where he played guitar. Family members said he enjoyed hunting, fishing and wood working. He was a member of the VFW and the Disabled American Veterans.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Senovio Chavez Jr., Juan Chavez and Jose Chavez; and by a son, Noel Chavez.
Survivors include his wife; five sons, Rudy Chavez (and wife, Becky) of Rio Rancho, Randy F. Chavez (Irene) of Clovis, John W. Chavez of Clovis, Roger Chavez (Maria) of Portales and Leon Chavez (Melissa) of Midland, Texas; two daughters, Delma Lozano (Frank) of Midland and Jolene Chavez of Amarillo; 22 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Tony Chavez of Clovis and Luis Chavez of Albuquerque.
A rosary is scheduled for 7 tonight at St. Helen Catholic Church in Portales.
Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday, also at St. Helen Catholic Church.
Father Tobin Hitt will officiate the services.
Burial will be at Portales Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Patricio Sena Jr., Adolfo Lozano and Randy Jr., Emilio, Senovio, Gabriel and Noel Chavez.
Arrangements are by Wheeler Mortuary of Portales.
Joan Johnson, 61
Helen Joan Johnson, 61, of Lubbock, formerly of Farwell, died Friday, Feb. 20, 2004, in Lubbock.
She was born on July 24, 1942, in Clovis to Oscar and Dorothy Hubbell.
She graduated from high school in Farwell in 1960. She attended West Texas State University for 2 years and graduated from Texas Tech University in 1964 with a degree in education.
She married Cecil Mason Johnson on June 1, 1963, in Oklahoma Lane, Texas. She taught the second grade in Littlefield for two years and then focused her efforts on being a homemaker. She was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority in Clovis and Farwell. She was a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Clovis. She moved to Lubbock from Farwell in 2000.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; an infant son; and a brother-in-law, Jesse Range.
Survivors include a daughter, Amy Johnson-Rubio (and husband, Donald) of Lubbock; three sisters, Betty Range of Lubbock, Naomi Walls (Mitchell) of Farwell and Jane Moore (Jim) of Portales; two grandsons, Noah and Zane; three nieces, Rhonda Pegoda, Loraine Moffitt and Teresa Wester; and two nephews, Craig Walls and Michael Moore.
Services have been held.
Paul Crooks will officiate the services assisted by Kathryn Boren.
Cremation will take place.

Irene Ribble, 78
Irene Ribble, 78, of Portales died Saturday, Feb. 21, 2004, at her home.
She was born on Sept. 5, 1925, in Portales to Blanche and Murry South.
She graduated from Portales High School in 1943. During World War II she worked in the ship yards in San Diego to help in the war effort. She married Graham “Stooge” Ribble on Nov. 1, 1947, in Lovington. She was employed five years for Southwestern Public Service before taking a position in the Business Office at Eastern New Mexico University in 1957. She retired as the Supervisor of Student Accounts and Investing in 1986 after 29 years of service. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School for more than 50 years, and the Roosevelt General Hospital Auxiliary.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Dr. Rheubin L. South; her husband; a son-in-law, David McClary; and a great-grandson, Isaac Danforth.
Survivors include a son, Dick Ribble (and Lori) of Deming; a daughter, Vana McClary of Portales; six grandchildren, John and Jean Schwab of Farmer’s Branch, Texas, Lynlea and Steve Fleischman of Noblesville, Ind., and Lorri and John Danforth, Jennifer and Travis Hardin, Kelly and Sheryl McClary and Stephanie McClary, all of Portales; 12 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and two sisters, Marie Creamer of Garland, Texas, and Betty Wright of Roswell.
Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. today at First Baptist Church in Portales.
Herbert Bergstrom will officiate the services.
Burial will be at Portales Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be John Danforth, John Schwab, Travis Hardin, Mark Wright, Robby Newberry and Scott Reeves.
