Bradburn named Pintores' March artist of the month

Anita Lucille Fulton Bradburn has been selected as the Pintores Artist of the month for March. She was born and raised in Grand Junction, Colo. She married George Bradburn in 1948 and they moved to Clovis and attended Eastern New Mexico University. They have four children and six grandchildren.

She was interested in art from early childhood and received encouragement and supplies from two aunts, Cora and Mattie Fulton. Throughout the years she has encouraged friends, her children, grandchildren and neighborhood children in art.

She was a charter member of Pintores; president for 2001-2002 and 2002-2003 and past president, secretary and treasurer for the Clovis-Portales Art Council. For several years she was co-chairman with Dale Hamlet (Professor of Art-ENMU) of the Council’s International Art Shows.

At Grand Junction High School she was one of four students chosen to paint a mural for the teen center. While studying under Alvie Redden at Mesa State College in Grand Junction, Colo., she illustrated stories for the English Publication of 1948. After coming to Clovis, she studied art at Eastern New Mexico University and at Clovis Community College. She also studied under Dr. Dean Merritt (Artist Laureate of France), Leona Head, Ridgley Whiteman, Marie Tidwell and Bruce DeFoor, all of Clovis; James Hall of Ruidoso and Jon Birdsong, of Portales.

With the encouragement of her family and friends, she has exhibited paintings at the Curry County Fair (Blue Ribbons); Pintores Fall Show at Clovis Carver Library; Clovis Fine Arts Festival; Clovis Community College-New Mexico State’s Vibrant Elders Show and Windows Gallery; Federal Building in Dallas; Artist of the Month-June 2001 show at Clovis Carver Library, the Capitol Building in Santa Fe and has shown her work at the Sylvan Contemporary Fine Art Gallery in Taos. She has a permanent painting at the New Mexico Museum of Fine Arts in Santa Fe.

Her Blue Ribbon “Indian Potter” watercolor was published in the Curry County Heritage Bicentennial Book in 1975.

She has done watercolors of Show Dogs for Mel Semmel of Denver and has paintings in Dallas, Houston Woodlands area and Amarillo, Colorado, Utah, Arizona, Alaska and Vendig’s (in the Village), New York City and other areas of New York.

She won a Merchant Award on her watercolor “Tranquility” at the Portales First Presbyterian Church 2002 Art Show. She shows her work at her studio and at the MAIN ARTeri Gallery in Clovis. She won 1st Prize in the 2003 3rd Annual Clovis Arts Festival Poster Contest. The Commemorative Poster of “Art Around the World” depicted the theme of the Clovis Downtown Art and Ethnic Fair in September 2003.

Some of her paintings in the local area can be seen in Amarillo at the new Randall County Prison Complex office reception area , Dr. Paul Pearson’s reception room and home and several Auto Nations car dealerships offices. She prefers watercolors but paints in both watercolor and oil.
