Boy Scout learning program helps teachers

Several Clovis schools are using a supplement provided by the Boy Scouts of America for teaching about ethical decisions, character building, interpersonal relationships, practical living skills and participating citizenship, said Boy Scouts District Executive Scott Kilian.

Kilian said the “Learning for Life” program is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Scouts. Teachers at Ranchvale and Parkview Elementary schools and Yucca and Marshal Junior High special needs classes are using the program.

“Learning for Life” consists of lesson plans teachers can modify to fit the needs of the students. Kilian said the themes try to instill the importance of respecting people’s rights and preparing students for leadership roles.

No teacher preparation work is involved and no research is required, Kilian said, because lessons are prepared by professional educators from around the country.
