Romero, Manuel

Manuel M. Romero, 74, of Fort Sumner died Monday, Jan. 26, 2004, at his home.

He was born on June 17, 1929, to Higinio and Ricardita Martinez Romero.

He attended school at Fort Sumner. He married Annie Griego on Nov. 17, 1961, in Clovis. He worked as an orderly for Pecos Valley Care Center for 10 years then as a custodian for Fort Sumner Public Schools for 13 years. He was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Fort Sumner. Family members said he enjoyed music, dancing, wood work, fishing and working in his yard.

He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, George M. Romero; four brothers, Carlos, Alfredo, Kenneth and Timoteo Romero.

Survivors include his wife; four daughters, Theresa Wood (and husband, Kevin), Nancy Romero, Lucy Sena (Lennard), all of Fort Sumner and Diane Hernandez (Isidro) of Amarillo; a son, George Romero (Donella) of Clovis; two stepsons, Orlando Garcia (Priscilla) of Santa Rosa and Fred Garcia (Bonnie) of San Antonio, Texas; three sisters, Louisa Romero of Fort Sumner, Clara Olona (Joe) of Clovis and Romana Sena (Mariano) of Fort Sumner; eight grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Visitation is scheduled from 1 until 6 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday at Chavez Funeral Home in Fort Sumner.

A rosary is scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Fort Sumner.

The Rev. Sotero A. Sena will officiate the services.

Burial will be at Fort Sumner Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Sam and Gerald Sena, Paul Pacheco, Randy Romero, Pablo Griego and Richard Sandoval.

Arrangements are by Chavez Funeral Home of Fort Sumner.
