Police Blotter for 12/17

Samplings of recent calls received by Clovis-area law enforcement officers, according to reports:

About 8:15 a.m. Dec. 8, police took a report that a pickup had been stolen late the previous evening. The driver said the pickup, which belonged to his stepfather, was taken while he was getting a cup of coffee at a convenience store before leaving for work.

The driver said he had been approached by a man who had asked him for a ride. The driver said he couldn’t take the man for a ride because he was on his way to work. While in the store, the driver saw his truck, a 1991 GMC 2-door extended cab with Texas plates and a gray and white two-tone paint job, heading eastbound on Seventh Street. The driver said he had left the keys in the ignition while getting his coffee.

The landlord of a house on the 500 block of Maple called police about noon on Dec. 8 regarding theft of electricity from his property.

Upon arrival, police found a black electrical cord plugged into the power box of the rented house and running into the window of a neighboring residence. The landlord told police he had told the neighbors the practice would not be allowed and both the landlord and tenant said no agreement existed to allow use of electricity by the neighboring residence. The neighbor was not at home so police disconnected the power cord after taking photographs and informed the landlord and tenant that further efforts would be made to contact the neighbor.

Police took a report about 6 p.m. Dec. 8 that a go-cart had smashed into a gas service pipe at the alleyway behind the 2800 block of North Prince, causing a gas leak, then the driver left the scene.

The go-cart was removed from the scene by a towing company.

Police responded about 10:30 a.m. Dec. 9 to a report that a witness in a drive-by shooting had been threatened at her workplace.

On Dec. 8, police had served an arrest warrant on a Clovis man for being an accessory to shooting at a motor vehicle and conspiracy to commit shooting at a motor vehicle. About 10:15 on Dec. 9, the witness and the wife of the man arrested were both at work when the wife swore at the witness, said, “You don’t know what you have gotten into and you’ll soon find out,” and walked out of the workplace.

The witness and her employer both considered that to be a threat and reported it to police.

When police attempted to arrest the wife at her home, they learned she had moved out of her residence and entered her name into the National Crime Information Center database as a wanted person.
