Church gives fund

a Christmas boost

Operation Christmas Child, a program that collects gifts for distribution to poor children worldwide, reported a 17 percent increase in collections at its Lubbock center and much of that increase appears to have been due to a collection drive by First Baptist Church of Clovis.

According to Sammy Rhodes, the Lubbock collection center received a total of 7,831 shoebox gifts this year compared to 6,444 last year. First Baptist Church of Clovis accounted for 1,700 of the shoeboxes.

Lutherans to give token gift at parade

Those coming to Saturday’s Christmas parade usually come away with some sweet treats and goodies that various groups in the parade give to crowds, but Immanuel Lutheran Church of Clovis is offering a special gift at Saturday’s Christmas parade: a wooden token with a picture of Jesus in the manger.

The wooden nickel is imprinted with the Dec. 6, 2003, date of the parade and the title “Christ Our Light.”

Those interested in obtaining a token may also contact the church at 763.4526.
