Police Blotter 11/25

Samplings of recent calls received by Clovis-area law enforcement officers, according to reports:

A 27-year-old Clovis woman contacted police about 4:30 p.m. Thursday regarding a possible theft of her dog.

The woman said the dog turned up missing Nov. 15 during a yard sale at the 3000 block of La Luz. The dog, a young black-and-white intact male Shih Tzu, was wearing a red collar with a rabies tag, was described as extremely friendly by the owner, who said she was afraid someone at the sale took the dog.

About 1:20 a.m. Friday, police noticed a 2003 Hummer fail to stop at the flashing red light on the corner of Main and 21st streets.

The driver had no smell of alcohol and satisfactorily performed field sobriety tests. A passenger, however, admitted to drinking alcohol and police found a crushed beer can in the car with beer spilled on the car floor. Police arrested the passenger for having an open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle.

Police responded to the 200 block of West 12th Street about 7:50 a.m. Friday to a reported theft of a white 2000 Honda SUV. The owner said he had left the SUV parked in his yard about 6 p.m. Thursday but it was gone Friday morning.

The vehicle’s value was estimated at $10,000.

Police received a call about 4 p.m. Friday that a fight was beginning at the 1400 block of Mitchell and a 15-year-old male had a chain wrapped around his hand.

When police arrived, the man with the chain refused to identify himself to police and attempted to resist being handcuffed. After being apprehended, he told officers his name, was cited for concealing identity, and had his chain confiscated.

A Clovis grocery store manager called police Friday afternoon to report about 15 checks given by customers to the store for payment had apparently been cashed instead by a store employee.

The employee appeared nervous but denied any knowledge of the incident.

Two vehicles received extensive damage in a Friday afternoon crash at the corner of 21st and Sheffield streets.

About 5:45 p.m., police took a report that a 47-year-old Clovis woman with two teenage sons in her 2001 Buick stopped at the stop sign facing north on Sheffield, pulled into the intersection, and hit a 2000 Chevy driven by a 16-year-old male from Clovis. Police cited the Buick driver for failure to yield.
