Elbert Muriel Edge, 85, of Clovis, died Sunday, Nov. 9, 2003, at Bridges Retirement Manor in Clovis.
He was born Jan. 17, 1918, in Caddo Mills, Texas, to Ernie and Mary Edge.
He was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church, and a life member of the American Veterans Roosevelt County Chapter No. 16. Mr. Edge attended school in Caddo Mills before the family moved to Mountainair where his father worked for the railroad. He married Lillian White on Aug. 12, 1939, in Mountainair. He entered the Army in 1944 and served in the European, African and Middle-Eastern theater of operations. Mr. Edge was wounded in Italy and received the Purple Heart.
He and his family moved to Portales in 1947. He worked for the railroad for a while and later went to work at Cannon Air Force Base as an auto mechanic. He retired from Cannon in 1981. Mr. Edge was an avid fisherman and liked working in his yard, family members said.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; one daughter, Sharon Best, and two brothers, Garland and Merril Edge.
He is survived by one son, Gary J. Edge (and wife, Janie) of Clovis; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Scott P. Reeves will officiate the services.
