Zias fall to Midwestern, ASU

PORTALES — Junior forward Shana Brown compiled a hat trick in the first half as Angelo State handed Eastern New Mexico University a 6-2 loss in Lone Star Conference women’s soccer on Saturday.

Brown’s barrage helped the Rambelles (8-6-1, 2-2 LSC) to a 5-1 halftime lead. Freshman forward Megan Dozier scored both goals for the first-year Zias (2-9, 1-4), who went winless in four matches in their first homestand.

On Friday, ENMU took a quick 1-0 lead, but Midwestern State tied the score just over a minute later and went on to a 4-1 victory. Freshman Anna Funck converted the Zias’ goal less than eight minutes into the match after a corner kick by Stacia Givens.

Zias win twice in WT event

CANYON, Texas — Junior Kelley McGinty had 15 kills and no errors on 23 attacks Saturday, leading the Eastern New Mexico University volleyball team to an easy 30-20, 30-10, 30-20 rout of winless Oklahoma Panhandle State in the Southwest Challenge, hosted by West Texas A&M.

Junior Anna Bellum added 10 digs as the Zias (11-13) were able to play their bench extensively against the Lady Aggies (0-8). ENMU had 52 kills for the match while committing only 10 kill errors.

The Zias split a pair of decisions on Friday, losing to St. Mary’s 30-26, 34-32, 30-26 before pulling out a 36-34, 33-31, 25-30, 25-30, 15-9 victory over Bellamine in a match that lasted nearly two hours and 20 minutes.
