Appelman leads CHS harriers

HOBBS — Senior Matt Appelman led from start to finish and paced the Clovis High boys to their fourth team win of the cross country season in Saturday’s Hobbs Invitational.

Appelman’s time of 16 minutes, 31 seconds over five kilometers was good for his third win of the fall and a considerably faster time than he ran in the same meet a year ago (18:16) over a 3.2-mile course. The Wildcats claimed five of the top eight places, finishing with 24 team points to 37 for Carlsbad and 63 for Hobbs.

The Clovis girls finished third with 43 points, just four points behind Hobbs and three in back of Carlsbad. Junior Megan Willis led th Lacy Wildcats with a third-place finish in 21:30 over 5K, while freshman Tori Northcutt fourth in 21:44.
