Police linked seemingly unrelated cases

Clovis Police Chief Bill Carey said three seemingly unrelated cases of child sex abuse came to police attention about the same time in mid-September. Police soon linked them to a home at 700 E. 10th Street and found other alleged victims.

Carey said an internal check of police records on Wednesday also showed that a neighbor called police in the spring to report suspicious activity at the house on 10th Street. Birdie Hill told the Clovis News-Journal on Tuesday that she tried to tell police months ago about the situation.

Carey said police did investigate the concerns following an April 28 call.

“When I read (the neighbor’s statement) in the paper we started doing research on it,” Carey said. “The detective went to the victim’s parents (in April) and they said they didn’t think this had happened.”

Carey said the April 28 report has now been included in the investigation.
