Mrs. Virgie Crownover Schaaf, 92, of Fort Sumner, died Monday, Sept. 22, 2003 at Farwell Convalescent Center.
She was born on Oct. 23, 1910, in Fort Sumner, to Ben and Mary Riddle.
She married George Crownover in 1927, in Fort Sumner. They moved throughout New Mexico and Arizona then moved back to Truth or Consequences where they made their home. She then married Alva Schaaf of Truth or Consequences. She moved back to Fort Sumner in 1996, to Clovis in 1998 and then to the Farwell Convalescent Center in 2001.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her two husbands; two brothers, Norvall and Luther Riddle; three sisters, Ina Bowlin, Rex Earp and Ethel Baker; a son-in-law, Garland Erven; and a grandchild, Garla Jean Erven.
Survivors include three daughters, Billie Erven of Alamo; June Doolittle (and husband, Marvin) of Clovis; Joyce Ann Rutherford (Sammy) of El Paso, Texas; a son, Jimmy Crownover (Joann) of Albuquerque; 15 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
Burial will be at Fort Sumner Cemetery. Chaplain Bill Bridwell will officiate the services.
Pallbearers will be Tommy and Darwin Doolittle, Keith Crownover, Sandy and Shane Mehl and Kelley Palmer.
Honorary pallbearers will be the grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. Arrangements are by Muffley Funeral Home of Clovis.
