Mrs. Lorraine Corbin, 84, of Portales, died Tuesday, July 22, 2003, at Heartland Continuing Care Center in Portales.
She was born on Sept. 10, 1918, in Vernon, Texas, to Ivy and John T. Compton.
She grew up in Vernon until 1936 when her family moved to New Mexico. She graduated from high school in Rogers in 1937. She married Dale Corbin on Dec. 16, 1937, in Clovis. They made their home in the Causey community where they farmed for many years. She was a member of the Causey Homemakers Club and the Causey Church of Christ. She was employed at the Causey Store, in the post office and drove a school bus. She moved to Portales in 1985 and was a member of the Third and Kilgore Church of Christ. Family members said she enjoyed sewing and doing hand work projects, was an excellent cook and enjoyed making a comfortable home for her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Clyde and Roy Compton; and her husband.
She is survived by a son, Art Corbin (and wife, Janet) of Alamogordo; a daughter, Wilma Linton (and husband, Olen) of Portales; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a sister, Faye Corbin of Portales.
David Bennett and Keith Corbin will officiate the services.
Burial will be at Portales Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Clint, Keith and Alvin Corbin, Jimmy Linton and Earl Dawdy.
Arrangements are by Wheeler Mortuary of Portales.
