Samuel Moore, 87

Mr. Samuel Carlos Moore, 87, of Clovis, died Monday, Sept. 8, 2003, in Clovis.

He was born on June 14, 1916, in Putnam County, Tenn., to Albert and Cora Ann Moore.

He worked for the AT&SF Railroad for over 30 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Albert Moore.

He is survived by his wife, Pauline Moore of Clovis; two daughters, Juanelle Mayes (and husband, Leslie) of Stockton, Calif. and Beulah Miller (Johnny) of Friona; a son, Thom Moore (Cozetta) of Portales; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; a sister, Cleo Slaggle of Seymour, Texas; a brother, Bill Moore (Pat) of Hobbs; and a sister-in-law, Nadine Moore of Fort Worth, Texas.

Bob Hawkins and Jim Gammon will officiate the services.

Burial will be at Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens in Clovis.

Pallbearers will be grandsons Dean and Scott Mayes, Jody Lewellen, Stan Miller, Mark Osborn, Tucker and Trevor Moore and Logan Marshall.

Arrangements are by Steed-Todd Funeral Home of Clovis. Services are at 10 a.m. today at Steed-Todd Chapel in Clovis.

Elsie Reid, 71

Mrs. Elsie Reid, 71, of Clovis, a retired federal employee, died Monday, Sept. 8, 2003, at Roosevelt General Hospital in Portales.

She was born on June 28, 1932, in Littlefield, Texas, to J.C. Sr. and Adelia Howard.

She was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, family members said.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, J.C. Howard Jr.; and a grandson, Shawn Dow.

Survivors include her husband, Doyle Reid of Clovis; six sons – John Reid (and wife, Elisabeth) of Belton, Texas; Howard Reid (Wanda) of Wakita, Okla., Jimmy Reid (Lydia) of Kingsland, Texas, Larry Reid (Dyanna) of Clovis, Phillip Reid (Becky) of Elberton, Ga. and Victor Reid of Wakita, Okla.; two daughters, Virginia Clark of Portales and Joyce Tucker (Les) of Moody, Texas; 43 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; two brothers, L.K. Howard (Bly) and Bill Howard (Maimee) Howard, all of Clovis; and two sisters, Della Choate (Lawrence) and Stella Hines, all of Clovis.

The Rev. Sam Kelley will officiate the services.

Burial will be at Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens in Clovis.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Heart Foundation.

Arrangements are by Steed-Todd Funeral Home of Clovis. Services are at 2 p.m. Saturday at Steed-Todd Chapel in Clovis.

John Stanley, 52

Mr. John V. Stanley, 52, of Portales, died Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2003, at his home.

He was born on Sept. 30, 1950, in Charleston, W. Va., to Eulah and Vincent Stanley.

He grew up in Wilmington, Del., where he graduated from high school in 1968. He went on to earn a degree in sociology from the University of Delaware. He was employed with the state of Delaware for 23 years in different aspects of social service. For much of that time he was a statistician gathering information to be used for establishing health programs in state institutions. He moved to Portales following his retirement.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Survivors include a daughter, Jillian Jenkins; his mother of Ocala, Fla.; and a brother, Dr. Nile Stanley of Middleburg, Fla.

The Rev. J. R. Dick Ross will officiate the services.

Burial will be at Portales Cemetery.

Honorary pallbearers will be Dan Greathouse, Chris Harrell, Patsy Neely, DeAnna Davis, Dr. Lonnie and Karen Alexander.

Arrangements are by Wheeler Mortuary of Portales. Services are at 4 p.m. today at Portales Cemetery.
