Mrs. Juanita Blanche Wright, 77, of Portales, died Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2003, at Roosevelt General Hospital in Portales.

She was born on Nov. 13, 1925, in Mobeetie, Texas, to James Willard and Nona Belle Lea.

She lived in Texas as a child moving to New Mexico as a teenager. She attended school at the old Portales Junior High School. She married Johnny Martin Creed Wright in February of 1947 in Clovis. They made their home in House. After the death of Mr. Wright in 1977, she moved back to Portales. She was a homemaker and child care provider for a great number of children over the years. Family members said she loved to crochet ripple-stitch afghans and made hundreds of afghans during her lifetime.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three brothers, Vernon, Isaac and Kenneth Lea; and an infant son.

She is survived by a daughter, Caryol Wright of Portales; a granddaughter, Lanona Kobernick of Pampa, Texas; two great-grandchildren, Destiny and Savannah Kobernick, both of Pampa, Texas; and a brother, Emery Lea of Albuquerque.

The Rev. Dick Ross will officiate the services.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society.
