    The Clovis-Carver Public Library will host a moon observation night 7 p.m. Oct. 8 at Ned Houk Park. There will be lunar activities and crafts, and a howling contest.   • Parks and Recreation conference coming to Clovis

    The Clovis Civic Center will host this year’s New Mexico Recreation and Park Association state conference, running Wednesday morning through Friday. An estimated 200 parks and recreation employees will attend the conference, with speakers from around the region offering educational sessions and National Recreation and Park Association Board of Directors Chair Janna Rankin speaking at general sessions Thursday and Friday.... Full story

  • Top-ranked Storm beats Clovis 49-14

    Cole Gautsche threw four touchdowns passes as top-ranked Cleveland beat Clovis 49-14 Friday at Leon Williams Stadium. Clovis (2-2) scored on Jonathan Johnson's 6-yard run three minutes into the game and Kamal Cass' 61-yard run in the final two minutes of the fourth. In between, the Storm (4-0) scored seven una TDs, including Romell Jordan's 1-yard run with 57 seconds left in the second quarter to put Cleveland up 21-7 at halftime. Most stories about Clovis resident Chuck Tipton begin with “When we were working on that musical...” There’s reason for that. Tipton taught music in Clovis’ schools for 20 years at all levels, including college, and he never got out of it.     The interlude page in the algebra book was the subject of the humor. Well, actually I am the only one who got the humor. Interlude pages, as I call them, are those pages between chapters, that give you subjects like Math Applied To Life.     After attending a couple of events last week commemorating 9/11 and watching television coverage it is hard to believe how overwhelming that day still seems. Ten years seems like an eternity when I look at all that has happened in my personal life over that time.
