    This year’s DairyFest drew about 6,000 people Saturday to the Curry County Events Center. That’s a little more than half the 2009 draw of 11,000, said Michelle Heavyside, founder and director of United Dairy Women, which sponsors the annual event. “I believe the heat had something to do with that,” Heavyside said in reference to triple-digit temperatures.   • Home severely damaged in Saturday fire

    A home fire Saturday night cause severe damage before firefighters were able to extinguish it. Firefighters were called to the residence at Curry Roads 5 and L around 6:45 p.m., according to Fire Chief Ray Westerman. When they arrived, the home was fully engulfed. “It was defensive in nature upon our initial arrival and the house had severe damage throughout,” he said.   • CATS taking after-school reservations

    Clovis Area Transit System will begin taking reservations 7 a.m. Friday for after-school transport for the upcoming school year. All reservations are on a first-come, first-served basis. Routes will be determined based on reservations placed at each school and available drivers, and extra reservations will be placed on a waiting list. No transportation will be offered to school.
