    The Lion’s Club is working to preserve Portales Spring, namesake of the city located on private land off N.M. 88 (Arch Highway). The Portales Lions are negotiating a lease with the landowner and plan to fence the site. There are also plans to build an observation landing for viewing the area where the springs were once located.     Freedom New Mexico Bidding has opened in the annual KENW Online Auction, even though the auction doesn’t officially begin until June 1. The auction features 25 categories and includes items such as a registered yearling bull from G-13 Angus Ranch, a 1995 Happy Holidays Barbie and a package of two nights at the Inn on the Alameda with a cooking class at the Santa Fe School of Cooking.     CNJ staff photo: Sharna Johnson The 2010 Relay for Life at Ned Houk Park Friday and Saturday raised more than $131,000 dollars for the American Cancer Society. The 2010 Relay for Life was the most successful in Curry County yet according to relay officials. The event raised a record $131,387 — up from $117,000 raised last year.
