  • New law to reduce mandatory coursework for future teachers

    STAFF WRITER [email protected] A new bill changing requirements for students in New Mexico looking to enter teaching has been signed into law by Gov. Susana Martinez. Senate Bill 329 will reduce the mandatory college coursework needed to obtain an elementary and secondary education licensure from 57 arts and science credit hours to 41 credit hours, and it will increase student teaching from 14 weeks to 16 weeks.     Staff report A Clovis man pleaded guilty Wednesday to charges he robbed a Clovis bank last fall. According to a release from the Ninth Judicial District Attorney’s office, Matthew Gonzales, 26, was sentenced to 11 years in the state prison.
