    Kevin Wilson

The New Mexico Legislature begins noon Tuesday in Santa Fe. The Legislature has two different types of sessions. In odd years, the session runs 60 days and is full of legislation that encompasses nearly everything one could imagine. In even years like 2012, the session is 30 days long and is limited mostly to the state budget. Any non-budget item needs pre-authorization from Gov. Susana Martinez. We made attempts to contact area legislators — and were successful getting everybody except Sen. Stuart Ingle, R-Portales;...

  • Racism not part of my upbringing

"The Help," recently viewed in our home, seems to shed light on a time and a place which I had not experienced. The connections with racial equality, and therefore with the observance of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. celebrations, should be obvious. Of course, it wasn't just about racial equality. King thought, spoke, fought for the rights of every human being to be treated with respect and with dignity. This over rode distinctions of class, gender, race, age. I did not imply by my opening statement that I was not alive at the...

  • Tim Tebow refreshing to watch

By the time you read this Tim Tebow may be back to worshipping God in a church instead of on a football field. I hope he's making plans to play in an AFC Conference Champion-ship next Sunday but I don't necessarily believe God is going to look down on Tom Brady and the Patriots. This whole buildup of Tebow's need to immediately thank God when a play goes his way has been a little troubling to many. But then Christ himself evoked some of the same feelings in his day. Many didn't want to credit him with all they saw happening... Full story

Perpetrators seek out victims that they can over-power and control.” This often i... Full story

  • In search of ponies: Dove had one last ride

    Sharna Johnson

Sleeping on the warm back of a horse on a cold winter night may seem like a great idea, except in the case of one dove who learned the hard way that tree limbs probably are the best roosts for cold birds. It looked a little like a seasoned sailor, oblivious to the motion of the world beneath its feet. Puffed up twice its natural size, with its head scrunched tight into its body, the dove didn't seem to notice anything at all as it was moved from right to left, forward and...
