    Family and friends said Doris Wall was always active in business and organizations and maybe that’s what kept her healthy enough to reach her 100th birthday Monday. Family and friends gathered at Heartland Continuing Care Center Monday for birthday festivities for Doris Wall of Elida.     Megan Kabrick and Robert Kemp received the top athletic honor at Portales High School earlier this month. Limited to seniors, the “Greatest Ram” award is based on academics, amount of years played in sports, ability, leadership skills and attitude. Kabrick was a star on the basketball and volleyball teams that won five state championships and is a member of the National Honor Society.     Lightning strikes caused havoc Sunday, starting more than 12 fires in Roosevelt County that burned more than 24,000 acres, according to local firefighters. There were no injuries or damaged structures reported because of the grass fires that occurred near Elida, Floyd, Arch, Milnesand, Highway and Crossroads.     Myra Skinner said her son, Jesse Clark, has had a rope in his hands ever since he could walk, and maybe that’s why he won the boys All-Around Championship in the New Mexico Junior High Rodeo Finals held Friday and Saturday in Lovington.     Portales Municipal school administrators were able to recoup a projected $400,000 budget deficit in the 2006-07 school year through staff reductions by closing Broad Horizons Alternative School and transferring surplus funds. Portales School Board members approved the more than $18 million 2006-07 budget during the school board meeting Monday evening.
