Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities
You don't see this Christmas tree every day.
It's decorated with ornaments representing each squadron on Cannon Air Force Base. The base has a tree skirt made of 30mm casings from a United States Air Force gunship.
It stole the show at the Hartley House Festival of Trees auction on Saturday, bringing in the top prize of $22,000.
Nurstead Consulting, a behavioral health consulting and training firm, made the winning bid.
"The Cannon Spouses tree is always one of the more popular trees," Hartley House Board President Mitch Mender told The News on Monday.
Mender said he was pleased with the attendance at the Clovis Civic Center.
"I think about 250 people attended. We raised over $54,000 in the live auction with 56 donated trees and wreaths," Mender said.
He noted the funds raised "will be used for shelter improvements and various programs throughout the year as needed."
Hartley House's mission is to end the epidemic of domestic violence by providing physical and emotional refuge and advocating freedom from violence through education, intervention and treatment, according to its Facebook page.
"It was a fantastic event. We are very grateful to the community for their support. We had a great showing," Mender said.
Kim Tipton, a member of the Hartley House board of directors, thanked the event sponsors, including Diamonds Evermore which donated "a beautiful two karat diamond."
