Weather forecast calls for more rain through week
Most of eastern New Mexico was under the following weather alerts early Friday evening:
* Severe thunderstorm warning until 7:15 p.m. Friday
* Flash flood warning until 8:15 p.m. Friday
* Tornado watch until 10 p.m. Friday and flood watch until 6 a.m. Saturday
A second consecutive rainy night left numerous rural roads damaged, hazardous or closed around eastern New Mexico.
"We are requesting all persons to pay close attention to road conditions and exercise caution while driving county roads," the Curry County Road Department stated in a news release Friday morning.
The following Curry County roads were closed early Friday afternoon:
* CR B between SR 19 and SR 241
* CR N between SR 14 and SR 16
* CR 19 between CR D and CR H
No roads had been formally closed in Roosevelt County, but County Manager Amber Hamilton said she was encouraging "all residents to drive slow and watch for water and report any road concerns they come across."
The National Weather Service reported the Texico area was hit hardest by rain on Thursday night and Friday morning. A station 13 miles north of Texico recorded 2.65 inches.
Other overnight rainfall totals, according to NWS:
* Clovis airport: 1.04 inches
* Portales: 0.27 to 0.36
* Cannon Air Force Base: 0.47
Some areas received as much as 3 inches of rain during Wednesday night's storm.
More rain is expected throughout Friday with a 90% chance of rain in the afternoon. Winds are expected to be 20-30 mph with higher gusts possible. Some storms Friday night may be severe, NWS reports.
