Texico woman enters plea in child abuse case

Jayme Kushman, one of the three women in Texico involved in child abuse charges last August has signed a plea, according to Misty Tillman, the Administrative Assistant to Ninth Judicial District Attorney Quentin Ray.

Kushman, 37, and Jamie Sena, 29, were each charged first with 23 counts of child abuse. A third suspect, Lora Melancon, 41, was charged at a later date.

The women were charged after authorities discovered children in their care in abusive conditions. This included conditions in which the children were found – showing they had been beaten, starved and chained to beds.

The five children, described as Sena’s children, Kushman’s sister’s children and a foster child, were subjected to wearing alarms and paddlings when the investigation took place last August.

Tillman said Kushman’s hearing will take place on July 5th at 2:00 with District Judge Drew Tatum.
