Man sentenced to 18 months on domestic violence conviction

Monty Porter of Portales was sentenced to 18 months incarceration on Wednesday according to Ninth Judicial District Attorney Quentin Ray.

According to a news release from Ray, Porter, 58, was found guilty in a jury trial on May 9, for battery on a household member, criminal damage to property and interference with communications, all misdemeanors.

The release stated that on January 2, 2022, a deputy with the Roosevelt County Sheriff's Office responded to 327 S Roosevelt Road O in reference to a battery. When the deputy arrived, he found the female victim that was bleeding from multiple lacerations on her face and neck.

Porter had been yelling and fighting with her prior, and had pushed her into several objects, one being a wire shelf which caused the lacerations. The victim had to call 911 from a neighbor's house.

Ninth Judicial District Judge Donna Mowrer presided over the hearing and sentenced Porter to eighteen months incarceration followed by two and one-half years of supervised probation with the adult probation and parole office.

Porter was represented by criminal Defense Attorney, Lance Sumrall, of Clovis. The News reached out to Sumrall Wednesday, but did not receive a comment.
