Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities
My first thought: “I’m having a heart attack.”
My second thought: “No, heart attacks hurt. This just kinda tickles. If I’m having a heart attack, I’m doing it wrong.”
In the final analysis, I did not suffer a heart attack. I fell victim to a miller moth attack.
I’m still not sure how that critter climbed inside my shirt without me noticing, but I do get distracted a lot during baseball season. After three or four flitter episodes, I realized the source of the problem and began fanning my shirt from the bottom, helping the miller moth recognize the path to freedom.
It landed on my computer keyboard. I picked it up and walked it outside, where I set it free.
Ordinarily, I am not opposed to mass murder when it comes to miller moths this time of year. I’ve heard tales of irritated area residents drowning them, electrocuting them, vacuuming them, swatting them and even stomping them to death. I am OK with all of the above.
I’m not sure why I took mercy on this particular miller moth other than we kind of got to know each other and I don’t think it meant me harm. I hope it lives long and prospers, in somebody else’s porch light.
Something to do
Looking for a day trip this summer? Something a little different?
Mark your calendar for July 7-9. That’s when the Albuquerque Convention Center is set to host the Morgue and Krypt Horror Fest.
Promoter Bethany Sedden claims this is New Mexico’s “only convention dedicated to horror, rock, and all that is macabre.”
Sedden reports the event is “locally owned and operated by horror fans for horror fans.”
Some of our “favorite” horror icons will be there, including actor Chris Sarandon, who played the vampire next door in the horror movie “Fright Night.” He also played Prince Humperdinck in “The Princess Bride,” one of the scariest movies ever.
The Zombie Pin-Up Pageant will provide an opportunity for a chance to become the first Morgue and Krypt Horror Queen.
Promotional material also warns there will be an interactive horror game called “Curse Your Luck” hosted by the Death Curse Society.
I can’t think of anything more scary than that … unless you happen to have a miller moth in your shirt.
