Locals honored at United Way annual banquet

Curry, Roosevelt and Quay County residents and companies gave $445,000 to the United Way of Eastern New Mexico (UWENM) and received thanks at the charity’s annual banquet Monday night.

UNENM’s top 10 workplace campaigns in Curry County were at Clovis Municipal Schools, Xcel Energy, Plains Regional Medical Center, Citizens Bank of Clovis, Plateau, Cummins Natural Gas Engines, Bank of Clovis, BNSF, City of Clovis, and Albertson`s Market.

The top five workplace campaigns in Roosevelt County were at Eastern New Mexico University, Roosevelt County Electric Cooperative, Portales Municipal Schools, and C&S Inc.

Several Quay County workplace campaigns were also recognized for their support and participation: Quay County Administration, Dan C. Trigg Memorial Hospital, and Logan Municipal Schools.

President Paul Nelson said these lists “are a testament to how United Way is truly a community wide effort to improve lives. Together we can be the change that is needed for the future to be different.”

Pablo Pena was the recipient of the 2022 Patricia Bazaar Community Volunteer of the Year award for his service in various taskforces and committees such as the Student Success Taskforce and the Youth Community Advisory Board.

Pena also dedicates some of his time as a volunteer coach for Texico’s track team, Reality Check Day events and more.

Several board member awards were also presented. Misty Ponce was honored as an outgoing board member and was thanked her for six years of service to United Way of Eastern New Mexico.

Tyler Lucas was honored as Campaign Chair for 2022-23 for leading the organization’s fundraising and outreach efforts across the community.

Paul Nelson was honored for serving as President for 2022-23 and was appreciated for his leadership.
