Clovis woman pleads to possessing firearm

A Clovis woman has pled guilty to felon in possession of a firearm following a search warrant issued back in July of 2022.

According to a release from the Ninth Judicial District Attorney's Office, Alexis Edwards, 22, pled guilty on Thursday for possessing an AR-15 style rifle. The search warrant was on July 9, 2022 after the Clovis Police Department (CPD) were looking for a firearm they believed to be involved in a homicide investigation.

One of the officers at that search warrant witnessed Edwards pick up the AR-15 and throw it on top of the roof of the house. The weapon was recovered and CPD found Edwards was previously convicted of a felony offense in Texas. Because of this, she was "not allowed to handle or possess a firearm," according to the release.

Edwards was sentenced to three years in the Department of Corrections and was represented by criminal defense attorney, Mitch Mender of Clovis. An attempt Friday to reach Mender for comment was unsuccessful.
