Elida rolls to pair of run-rule wins against Mescalero

MESCALERO – Elida’s baseball team continued its recent swing out west on Wednesday, with better results than the earlier games.

The Tigers, who lost to Magdalena on Friday and to Mesilla Valley on Saturday in games played at Magdalena, traveled to Mescalero on Tuesday and put 75 runs on the boards in handing the overmatched Chiefs 36-2 and 39-15 setbacks, both contests ending in five stanzas on the run rule.

Senior Levi Victor went 7-for-9 in the two games with three doubles, a triple, nine runs and 11 runs batted in – seven of those coming in Game 1 where the Tigers (5-2) led 30-0 in the second inning. Junior Seth Jimenez was also 7-for-9, with a double, two triples, a home run, eight runs scored and nine RBIs, and freshman Bradley Burris finished 4-for-8, scoring seven runs and knocking in three.

In the first tilt, Seth and Jose Jimenez combined to limit the Chiefs (3-10-1) to three hits. Freshman Ty Kennedy was 2-for-3, walking three time, scoring four and driving in three, while junior Jeremiah Woodruff was 2-for-2 with two runs and two RBIs.

In Game 2, Elida had four innings of at least eight runs, capped by 14 in the top of the fifth. Jose Jimenez doubled, homered and went 4-for-6 with four runs and four RBIs; freshman Radlee Ferguson was also 4-for-6 with five runs and an RBI; eighth-grader Coda Cathey was 3-for-4, scoring three times and knocking in four, and senior Dalyn Taylor went 2-for-2 with two runs scored and an RBI.
