Eastern New Mexico could see 3-5 inches of snow for the morning commute on Tuesday. Isolated areas could see up to 8 inches of snow, forecasters warned in issuing a winter storm watch until noon on Tuesday.
The National Weather service stated Sunday, “There is still some uncertainty with the track of this winter storm as it crosses New Mexico late Monday through Tuesday. However, there is potential for significant snowfall accumulations across portions of central and especially eastern New Mexico.”
The weather service warns anyone planning to travel late Monday through Tuesday morning may encounter snowpacked and icy roadways, especially “portions of I-40, I-25, U.S. Highway 285, and U.S. Highway 60 within central and eastern NM.”
The region has a better than 90% chance of snow starting Monday night.
Frigid temperatures are also expected throughout the week with a high of 45 on Monday and lows dipping into the teens by mid-week.
