No injuries in officer-involved shooting

CLOVIS -- Officials on Saturday were investigating an officer-involved shooting near 11th and Connelly streets, according to a news release from the Ninth Judicial District Attorney's Office.

No one was injured in the incident, said DA Quentin Ray.

The suspect, Joey Gallegos, was arrested on multiple outstanding warrants. Ray said charges related to Saturday's incident are pending an ongoing investigation.

Ray said officials recovered a weapon from the suspect, who is being held in the Curry County Adult Detention Center without bond.

The incident began about 8:30 a.m. Saturday when police were notified of "possible gun shots" in the areas of 10th and Connelly and 14th and Mitchell. When police arrived an officer "observed a male wearing a yellow shirt, walking down an alleyway near 12th and Connelly heading southbound," according to a news release from Ray.

"The officer attempted to make contact with the male near 11th and Connelly. The officer described seeing the male suspect with what appeared to be a firearm in his hand. The male began running from the officer and it was reported the male suspect had shot at the pursuing officer. The officer discharged his duty weapon in response."

Officials did not immediately release the name of the officer involved. Ray said the officer was placed on paid administrative leave as is routine with officer-involved shootings.

The region's Major Crimes Unit was activated to investigate the incident.
